Obama fans love to text

November 6th, 2008 | by Pallavi Dinesh |

Obama-mania is here, or I guess maybe it’s been here all along. And on the night of November 4th it hit an all time high when he was declared president-elect for Americans.

Between 7 p.m. and midnight EST, more than 1.2 billion text messages were sent across the US, according to Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase Inc.

As you many know, Obama’s fans have been known to text a few times (or maybe even a few hundred times) since the campaign began. This campaign has also been known as the mobile/cellphone generation and has really helped his grassroots efforts which I believe resulted in him getting elected to the White House.

Sybase also said that 10 minutes after Obama was officially elected president at about midnight EST, the volume of messages increased more than three times the normal amount for that time of day.

It seems fitting doesn’t it? After all Obama is a fan of the BlackBerry and his campaign used text messaging throughout the last few months to keep up communicate with supporters.
