Skype on Android; Coming to Iphone Soon
January 14th, 2009 | by Jessica.G |Skype recently announced the availability of Skype lite for the Android Phone as a free download. Skype Lite is also available for several phones that support Java. Skype lets you make free local calls over standard voice channels then convert it to VOIP, allowing international calls to be made at local call rates. “Call on Skype wherever you are – no WiFi or 3G required” You can use Skype for Instant messaging and to make phone calls and not use up all your minutes. And if you’re wondering if Skype will be release for iPhone, signs point to yes and it might be available for the iPod Touch as well. An iPhone version of Skype is still undergoing development but will soon be available as well. However the approval of Skype from the App Store might delay it’s availability. Skype is a good app to have and a convenient way to save money in these hard economic times. So far over 370 million users have signed up to Skype and an estimated 30 million new users joining each quarter.
Skype has released a version for Apple’s Mac computers this week, and will release another version for Windows in February. There will also be an open source version for small intel-based computers running Linux software.
