Dell Android Phone in the Works
January 14th, 2009 | by Jessica.G | A recent rumor, indicates that Dell might have an Android phone in the works. If not Android it could be an S60 device and could be launching as early next month at 3GSM or Mobile World Congress. Dell had been rumored before, (as far back as February 2007) about moving in the Mobile phone market direction, So there could be a slight possibility that there will be a Dell phone launching in the future. If Dell is looking towards that direction, I believe we could see a Dell phone, but not nearly as early as next month.
“Dell has been studying the cell phone market and talking with component suppliers and manufacturers for nearly two years now” says Shaw Wu of Kaufman Brothers.
Wu says that Dell entering the smartphone market is inevitable and if anything a launch is “closer to reality than before”. Dell has been struggling in this economy and and a move to the smartphone market would help compete against Apple and others.
Deciding which platform to base their new phone on would be another quest. So far the rumor states that Dell has been working closely with Google, hence why its believed to be an Android phone. But since it is a rumor, Dell could easily partner up with Windows, Symbian, or they can even come up with a completely new OS.
If Dell were to be entering the Smarphone market it would be a wise decision, because this is the market to get into despite others crashing.
