Verizon Eyeing Apple’s iPhone
April 30th, 2009 | by Jhananthi Janakiraman |If rumors are to be believed, Apple may go along with Verizon and make an iPhone that will be suitable for Verizon’s network.
This news is sure to make waves coming at a time when AT&T’s exclusivity with iPhone may end next year.Â
Verizon may make itself attractive to Apple on 2 counts. Read more after the jump…
One, it is co-owned by Vodafone which sells the iPhone in Europe. Second is that, it is transitioning to LTE, the more advanced network which may be globally adopted sooner or later. This will attract the iPhone as it is promoted as a global phone.
Discussions were being held between Apple’s Steve Jobs (before he went on leave) and Vodafone according to some sources, regarding this.Â
Again, iPhone being a much sought after product among wireless consumers, AT&T would like to hold on to it exclusively as is shown by efforts from the carrier.
However contrary to such reports, Apple’s top brass denied any such development of a new phone for use with Verizon’s CDMA network. AT&T is considered the best wireless provider in the US by Apple which looks forward to continuing this relation. iPhone is aimed at being a global phone and in that case GSM will be a better option than CDMA, opines Tim Cook, Apple’s COO.
Let us wait and see what new developments take place. Either way the consumer will stand to benefit.
