While RIM and Apple battle it out Google plans on stealing the show

Sometime this October sources at T-mobile say that they will start carrying a HTC device with the much-anticipated Android software by Google. If I were RIM & Apple I would definitely be shaking in my boots. Why? Because it’s Google. And when they do something, they work to get it done right.

Google had realized a few years ago when they started ruling the Internet search arena that the next big thing was the smartphone. They know that people don’t want to be tied to desktops or even laptops anymore. They need freedom. Freedom to browse the Internet on the go. Freedom to express themselves on the go. Freedom to have their virtual office while they’re sitting on the beach sipping on a cold drink.

What I mean is that it’s not just about having email on the go anymore. Blackberry perfected that already a long time ago. No one’s going to argue that. However, now people want more. Correction: people need more than just email on the go. And they need more than just a mp3 player, camera, and mobile games.

Now, we’re talking about the next wave. Now we’re talking about the future. The future of smartphones is going to depend on how mobile software and hardware can create a personalized experience for the user. And Google’s Android is the first serious step in that direction.

Anyway, Google has been working on this for a while and they have been really secretive about it - even more so than RIM or Apple who have been highly guarded about unveiling new devices recently. However, the reason for Google’s secretiveness is not so much to drum up the anticipation as it is to make sure that the Android OS is ready for launch and to make sure and test it properly and get all the kinks out. That’s just the type of company that they are.
