Best Smartphones of 2008

December 31st, 2008 | by Pallavi Dinesh |

This is the non-technical, non-jargon best smartphones list for 2008 from Fommy.com. We’ve seen every model and handset design that’s come out this year and here’s our faves.

These phones are in no particular order but all the ones on this list are #1 on someone’s list. As I always say, the best smartphone is the one that best fits your needs.

So here we go.

#1. Apple iPhone 3G

My take on this iconic phone is same as everyone else’s… I loved it from the moment I saw it. A sleek design that actually lends itself to great technology. Apple’s phone is in every way simple to use and easy to enjoy. Web surfing is great and with the 3G speed it’s as good of a web experience as you can have on a mobile.

#2. RIM BlackBerry Bold

This king of mobile email is holding its own. The screen/display is amazing and at the same time it’s like  your previous (favorite) BlackBerry. Easy to read and send emails this one is for the busy executive as much as it is for the stay at home mom. The battery life ain’t that bad either.

#3. T-Mobile G1

What’s a 2008 best smartphones list without the new baby? The G1 (made by HTC) premiered with a bang in Fall 2008 and it has been a crowd pleaser, especially since a full QWERTY keyboard slides out for easy texting, web searching, and emailing. And let me tell you, as much research as Google has put into developing the Android OS that the G1 runs on, it’s going to help us all in the long run whether we are currently using this phone or not. G1 is just a glimpse into the future of mobile technology.

#4. Samsung Omnia SGH-i900

The Samsung Omnia was marketed as an iPhone Killer and honestly speaking I think it is the best iPhone competitor on the market today. With a Windows Mobile OS and a 5 megapixel camera, I don’t think there is anything that this phone cannot do. Plus the size is more compact than most of the touch screen phones in the market today.

#5. HTC Touch Pro

HTC was on a roll this year, coming out with great devices left, right, and center. The HTC Touch Pro is the best of their offering for this year. The device operates on Windows Mobile and has a great camera with LED flash. Plus, the ability to add extra memory thanks to a micro SD slot. And don’t forget the full slide out QWERTY keyboard.
