Best Smartphones of 2008

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

This is the non-technical, non-jargon best smartphones list for 2008 from Fommy.com. We’ve seen every model and handset design that’s come out this year and here’s our faves.

These phones are in no particular order but all the ones on this list are #1 on someone’s list. As I always say, the best smartphone is the one that best fits your needs.

So here we go.

#1. Apple iPhone 3G

My take on this iconic phone is same as everyone else’s… I loved it from the moment I saw it. A sleek design that actually lends itself to great technology. Apple’s phone is in every way simple to use and easy to enjoy. Web surfing is great and with the 3G speed it’s as good of a web experience as you can have on a mobile.

T-Mobile Sending New Batteries to All G1 Users

Monday, December 29th, 2008

T-Mobile is rumored  to be sending out a late Christmas Gift to all G1 owners….a much desired Christmas gift….an extended battery with a compatible replacement battery door.  The current 1150mAh battery, as we all know, just doesn’t cut it, and frustrated T-Mobile customers have spoken out.  A notice will be sent out to G1 owners either via mail or email about this in the coming weeks.  There has been no formal announcement within T-Mobile, but thier PDA support is aware of this.  A T-Mobile representative states, “After everything they did, and the amount of time put into this (extended battery) project, I doubt they would scrap it now.”  I’ll be holding my breath and crossing my fingers for this one.

T-Mobile G2 confirmed…almost

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

It might still be in the rumor stage but at this point, the stats on the G2 are becoming more and more clearer. See this BGR report for full details - the latest is that the G2 is due out in April 2009 and will have no external keyboard. There will be a trackball, yes, as in the BlackBerry trackball.

In addition, it seems that the phone is going to be available on more than 1 network, although we don’t know which other one than T-Mobile. Oh yeah, and the other network won’t be allowed to call it G2 because that’s T-Mobile’s proprietary name…..

T-Mobile G2 coming out next month?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

This one sounds too much even for us but I had to report this rumor about the new G2 from T-Mobile. Supposedly as per BGR rumors, the G2 is coming out on January 26, 2009. Seems a little too soon doesn’t it? Well I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Save Your Fave YouTube Vids to your T-Mobile G1…A How To

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Now you can totally tote around awesome YouTube videos on your G1, simply save them to your SD card via copy & paste.  The kids over at Android Tapp give a little demo, just follow their instructions below:

  1. Search for the video you want. In the video above, I choose “The Transporter 3 movie trailer”
  2. Tapp the YouTube link, by default the G1 will prompt 2 options: Browser or YouTube. Chose “Browser”. The reason, to get the YouTube link.
  3. Tapp “Menu” + “Go to URL”, the YouTube URL should appear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kodviK1AHdg.
  4. Press on the keyboard “Menu” + “C” to Copy on the G1
  5. Go to www.keepvid.com
  6. In the search field press on the keyboard “Menu” + “V” to Paste on the G1, hit Enter
  7. Slide down and Tapp “›› Download ‹‹ (video.mp4 - High Quality)“. This will open a new window and download the MP4 in your browser history. Disregard the .FLV version as the G1 can’t do Flash Video… yet. (Alternatively, it’s saved on your SD Card under “downloads” folder)
