Storm Patch 4.7.0.122 on Telus and 4.7.0.141 on Verizon?
April 28th, 2009 | by Chris Speight |
Well, it hasn’t been long since that last reported upcoming Storm patch, but apparently we already have another one on the lineup. According to BGR, patch 4.7.0.141 could be released as early as well… today. But that seems pretty likely considering that it is already in the mid-afternoon. Like most of the news today, it could just be another case of the rumor mill running rampant. Regardless, BGR claims the source is reputable and I trust them to a reasonable extent.
Also, according to Crackberry, Telus Mobility in Canada has patch 4.7.0.122 available now for their Storm…
Alright, is anyone else just finding this ridiculous at this point?
This device has problems, indeed, and it needs some patches. For every patch that comes out, something else seems to get buggy, and every single carrier seems to be using a different version of the patch, and to keep up, you need to hack your phone and install firmware updates that can potential turn it into a useless block just so you can make the phone a bit more usable. Carriers need to be removed from patch distribution entirely, this whole thing has become a gigantic mess. To top it off, no one even makes it real clear what is being fixed, only the general files that have been changed, so no one really has much idea what is going on.
We need transparency here. RIM themselves should distribute OS changes and patches internationally. If the carriers want to distribute extras, that’s fine, but do it separately, you’re only serving to slowdown the patching process to customers. If you (the carrier) continue this route, I wish you luck on selling future BlackBerry devices to continually frustrated consumers who have to wait months to get a cohesive, functional patch for a device that wasn’t even ready to be released in the first place.
