BlackBerry SurePress here to stay

May 29th, 2009 | by Chris Speight |

In a rather interesting turn of events, Mike Lazardis, CEO of RIM said at the recent D7 conference that (and I quote): “…SurePress is here to stay.” SurePress is the technology that powers the BlackBerry Storm, RIMs device designed to take on the iPhone head on. Basically it allows for a “clickable” touch screen, a feature most seem to utterly love or completely hate (more seem to fall into the latter category), but overall the Storm has proven to be a fairly good seller, regardless of the buggy nature of the device. What’s odd though is that from all reports about the second generation Storm, it does not actually include the technology at all. It’s possible that these reports are perhaps mistaken and they simply received prototype devices, but that seems rather unlikely at this point. Regardless, love it or hate it, it’s apparently here to stay.

Personally, I think it’s a very innovative idea, I just wish that the first device it was in had been better executed. I really believe that RIM should give customers a right to choose though, perhaps offering a SurePress and a regular touchscreen interface for their upcoming BlackBerry touchscreen devices.
