BlackBerry App World doubles to 2,000 apps
July 9th, 2009 | by Prachi Mehta |Just as the Apple App Store celebrated the 1 billionth download couple of months back, the Blackberry App Word has also achieved a new feat as the count of the apps offered in the store was raised to 2000.
Although this count appears very tiny in comparison to Apple App Store’s mammoth 50,000+ apps count, Research in Motion’s VP Jeff McDowell expressed that BlackBerry App World offers everything that their consumers need and is not lagging behind Apple.Â
He further added that they’ll be offering the services of BlackBerry App World to larger segment of international audience, including the residents of countries like France, Spain, Italy, as well as Germany, sometime later this month, while they’ll target the Brazilian and Indian market by the end of this year. At the moment, about three fourth of the revenues of the company are generated from the Canadian and Indian market.
Indeed BlackBerry App World is catching up very fast, and within a couple of months, they’ve doubled the count of the apps offered to their users, though many of the critics still believe that their limited catalogue is still a major drawback.
McDowell also mentioned that they’re developing targeted apps such as soccer oriented games for European audience and Bollywood/Cricked themed apps for Indians. So, he feels these 2000-2500 apps will be good enough to compete strongly against Apple’s 50000+ apps when it comes to actual downloads. Let’s wait and watch how well does the BlackBerry App World really perform against the so-far unbeatable Apple App Store.
