Samsung beats Nokia to announce the World’s first Windows Phone 8 device, called ATIV S

Nokia lost out yet again, the race to announce the first Windows Phone 8 device has been won by Samsung (sorry, Nokia fans – I know you will hate me for this). Nokia is supposedly Microsoft’s partner for it’s Windows Phone platform, so much so it dumped it’s own widely used and selectively popular Symbian platform for the sake of joining the MS bandwagon – despite all that we have Samsung (yes, the largest seller of Android devices) announce the first Windows Phone 8 device the world would see! This, truly bewilders me, good luck Nokia with the mess you are in, with Samsung and HTC betting big on Windows Phone 8 you need all that luck! As my condolences to Nokia, I still feel we have a winner if Nokia packs PureView into a Lumia and shows it to us on September 5 – take my money Nokia; if you are doing that!

Now let’s talk about Samsung ATIV S (that’s more relevant than Nokia anyways!). ATIV S has a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection and is powered by 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait processor. It comes with an 8 Mega-pixel primary camera with LED Flash and 1.9 Megapixel front-facing camera. It can record and play Full HD videos at 1080p. It is super thin at 8.7 mm and weighs only about 135 grams. It has brushed aluminum body (yes, that is WOW and that is super rare from Samsung) and a physical Windows button at the bottom – also, for a change we have a device without Samsung’s rather boring TouchWiz User Interface, this one has the Windows UI (metro as it was known earlier).

The phone is loaded has all the bells and whistles anyone migrating from Android or iOS is used to and yes I do believe that Windows Phone 8 DOES have screenshot taking capability for all of you who diss about it (yes, I know you are out there!).

As expected Samsung did not allow anyone to go hands-on with this device, neither did they demo it – Microsoft hasn’t revealed Windows Phone 8′s entire list of features, I’m sure Samsung was asked to stay mum about those, so they did! I do certainly hope that Samsung is able to help Windows Phone 8 become a worthy competitor to Android, because it really has what it takes to take on the green robot!

Now Nokia Lumia 900 costs only $49.99 on AT&T

Starting today, the price of the Nokia Lumia 900 – the flaghsip Windows Phone device from Nokia in the US on AT&T has been reduced by a good $50! So if you din’t get one – it might be the right time for you to get one, now!

Now you have to instead of spending $99 on a Lumia 900, only need to spend $49.99 on it, of course this is with a two year contract! But, do remember Windows Phone 8 is round the corner and the Lumia 900 will not get any update besides the Windows 7.8 – so I personally would be against the idea of getting the same, unless of course you are on a budget!

Nokia the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer has confirmed that the software updates for three of its Lumia devices, namely the 610, 710 and 900 are coming!
