Motorola betting on Android Powered Smartphone
May 26th, 2009 | by Jhananthi Janakiraman |After a lull Motorola is again in the picture and seems to be the talk of the town. The handset division may still get a chance at a come back if the company’s gamble with the Android platform pays off. In spite of bad business the share prices seem to have risen but from a very low figure and Motorola is optimistic that they got the timing right. Plans have been drawn to flood the market with Android powered smartphones by Christmas.Â
It’s a tough job ahead as most carriers and customers are still thirsting for an iPhone. If Motorola can pull off a Razr type of act again, it will be nothing short of a miracle. Although quick enough in introducing the clam-shell phone and gaining market, Motorola did make mistakes when it delayed in adopting the digital technology or when it stuck to Razr for too long and was late in coming out with a camera phone. Already HTC, Samsung, and Huawei are making their own Android phones toughening the competition but Nokia has not revealed its Android interest so far.
Learning from past mistakes, Motorola may succeed in keeping its mobile division afloat. Android may help it do that if care is taken on the manufacturing, looks and style, pricing and marketing fronts.Â
