July 26th, 2009 | by Jhananthi Janakiraman |If you love traveling and exploring places then the latest version of Google Maps is here to spice up your vacation. Google Maps for mobile offers a layered view of all the information you need.
You can now find and interact with geographic content, like public transit, traffic, local search results, latitude friend locations and Wikipedia to mention a few. Even your own My Maps content appears in a layer. To go a step further multiple layers can be combined to give a better idea of all that’s around you.
My Maps functionality allows you to trace the route of your journey with places to visit on the computer and then add the My Maps layer in Maps for mobile with few clicks. Now the route you wish to pursue is in your hand.
When visiting new places, learn more about its history, must see places and other details using the Wikipedia layer. Click on the ‘W’ icons on the map to learn more. Maps also come with improved search functionality. You can spot red dots indicating a place of interest such as an eating place and stop over or look for the nearest exit.
Search also offers a link to browse popular categories so you need not type while on the go. However this feature is available only in the US and China at present.
What better way to avoid traffic bottlenecks? Traffic incident information for some cities with nature of delay is now available on Google Maps. This lets you plan well ahead.
To start Layers on Google Maps for mobile 3.2 select Layers in the menu and choose between layers making combinations. You can superimpose a friend’s latitude location on the planned route map and surprise him/her.
