Rhapsody streaming music app now available on the iPhone

September 23rd, 2009 | by Pallavi Dinesh |

Rhapsody has finally introduced their much-anticipated mobile app! It enables existing Rhapsody subscribers to access 8+ million songs via their iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Many people were wondering if this app would pass the big brother test that Apple gives to so many of its apps that compete directly with its existing services (in this case – iTunes), but apparently Rhapsody sailed right through within a month or so of submitting the app for review.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store. For those who do not yet have a subscription to Rhapsody ($14.99/month) you can sample the service free for seven days on your iPhone before being required to purchase.

Subscribers can create playlists, add new tracks to their music libraries and purchase MP3 music files directly from their devices with the Rhapsody app. They also can buy subscriptions to Rhapsody via the devices, which are made by Apple.

Rhapsody is the first on-demand streaming music application available through the Apple App Store in the U.S., Lunsford says. RealNetworks is planning to make Rhapsody available on more platforms later this year, he adds.
