Android Now an Open Source OS

Yesterday Google made the Android platform operating system available as the Android Open Source Project, freefor anyone to download.  Android can be adapted by many hardware configurations. It has everything available form the bootloader to the applications, and if you have a great idea for a feature to add on to the android platform, now you can. Anyone that want to develop a new feature can add it, having all the tools they need from graphics to media codecs and more.

We can definitely expect to see more android based phones coming out in the near future, and they will only get better and better. I think there are lots of  creative minds out there, and soon enough our phones of today will be a thing of the past.

The Android Market is “an open content distribution system that will help end users find, purchase, download and install various types of content on their Android-powered devices.”  Users will also be able to rate and review applications similar to YouTube.  The HTC Dream/G1 will ship with the beta Android Marketplace and only free apps will be available for download.  Shortly after an updated version will be released that incorporates paid applications.
