Google responsible for EU’s Microsoft antitrust probe

Competition between Google and Microsoft has been escalating for a while now and both companies have started resorting to dirty tricks to undermine the other.

Microsoft has been fined close to a billion dollars this week by European authorities due to antitrust concerns. According to the Financial Times, Google tipped the EU off about Microsoft’s suspected illegal activities. The European Commission is punishing Microsoft for ‘bullying’ consumers by not offering them a choice of browser to use; their browser or those of their main competitors.

Adobe released Photoshop Touch app for smart phones


The long wait is finally over, Adobe today released their Photoshop Touch application for smart phones, bringing Photoshop to your pocket.

The new app dedicated to smart phones is almost identical to the tablet version in terms of features and cost $4.99 on both the Google Play Store as well as the Apple  App Store. The Adobe Photoshop Touch application brings loads of filters, layers, adjustments and tools such as the selection tool to the small screen. It also brings along free Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to users which will allow them to continue their work on their tablets or PCs. It supports Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and higher as well as iOS 6.0 and higher. The Android version weighs in at 20MB and the iOS version at 32.2MB.

Google Chromebook Pixel announced, carries a hefty $1299 price tag


After weeks of rumours and speculation, Google has finally unveiled their top of the line Chromebook, the premium Google Chromebook Pixel.

The Chromebook Pixel, named that due to its high pixel density of 239 ppi and ultra high definition resolution of 2560 x 1700. It is powered by a 1.8GHz dual core Intel Core i5 processor with Intel HD 4000 graphics, 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. It will boast 2 USB ports, Bluetooth 3.0 as well as WiFi. An LTE capable unit will go on sale in April for $1449. The Chromebook Pixel also includes 1TB of Google Drive storage for three years. Battery life is said to be in the line of 5 hours. It is already on sale in the US and UK from the Google Play Store.

Vic Gundotra: “committed to making Nexus phones [with] insanely great cameras”

oogle’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, Vic Gundotra, has made it clear today that future generations of their Nexus devices will have “insanely great cameras.”

The statement has sparked rumours and speculation that Motorola’s X Phone, supposedly  a next gen Google Nexus device, would be the first device to have such a camera after rumours that the project’s leader, Lior Ron, wanted a ‘killer camera’ on the device. The device is expected to be announced together with the next version of Android, Key Lime Pie, at this year’s Google I/O conference on May 15 in San Francisco.

Android 4.2.2 hits LG Google Nexus 4

he latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, has started rolling out to LG Google Nexus 4 users.

The update has been confirmed to bring a lot of bug fixes and speed as well as usability improvements. In addition to the under the hood tweaks, LG Nexus 4 users will now enjoy new battery notification sounds when wireless charging is activated as well as when the battery is running out of juice. Unofficial access to the unsupported embedded LTE has also been taken away leaving users wanting more, though the LTE only worked in limited areas to begin with.
