Of course rumours are just rumours and it may just prove to be nothing, but not if Apple’s three recent patent filings has anything to do with it. Apparently Apple is working on a stylus that will compete directly with Samsung’s S-Pen, but will host more features such as a mini barcode scanner and motion gesture password protection support. The rumoured iPhone Plus, a iPhone/iPad cross might just be Apple’s answer to Samsung’s successful Galaxy Note series. Of course, an ‘iPen’ would put a spanner in the works for Cregle Inc.’s iPen and iPen 2.

Holt believes that an Office for iPad application could rake in billions of dollars for the software maker and direct competitor of the iPad manufacturer. He did however not factor in Apple’s cut from sales, but still estimated it to be beneficial to the Redmond giant. Reuters however believes that an Office for iPad application in the near future is unlikely as it would cut into Microsoft’s Surface tablet’s sales as the Office suite that comes pre-installed is one of its key features. Kurt DelBene, head of the Office division at Microsoft, evaded questions regarding such an application and instead suggested that the cloud version of Office, Office 365, would have to suffice as there has been an ample amount of optimization done to accommodate the iOS platform.
